Mission Statement
The Community Preschool of the First United Methodist Church of Voorheesville is a cooperative, non-profit program that welcomes all people. The purpose of the school is to provide preschool level education emphasizing the social development of the student.

Philosophy
Preschool is the beginning of your child's educational experience. Many of their attitudes toward themselves, other people, and school in general may be formed at this time. Our school plays an important role in making these attitudes positive ones. It offers children their earliest opportunity, outside the home, to interact with a group of peers and thus develop basic attitudes that will help them adjust to living within the structure of our society.

Program

Before Covid hit, below was our program. As the world has changed dramatically, so to has our approach to preschool. As it is an ever changing situation, please see above (preschool_virtual_plan.pdf) for our plan for virtual learning going forward.

The program emphasizes student cooperation through cooperative playtime, listening skills, following directions, sharing ideas and events with a group, large and small motor skills, an awareness of time, nature, sequence of events and relationship of objects. There are enrichment activities through special events and guest speakers. In addition, every attempt is made to meet the individual needs of each student, including academics where appropriate. In keeping with the cooperative spirit of the Preschool, parents are encouraged to participate in the program by serving on a committee, and volunteering assistance in the classroom for parties, projects, or other special occasions.

School Schedule
The Preschool is in session from the Monday following the opening day of school for the Voorheesville Central School system in September through the Friday before Memorial Day. The program seeks to offer at least two classes: one for four-year-old children and, depending on suitable enrollment projections, one for three-year-old children.

We have morning and afternoon sessions, each meeting for two and one-half hours. The classes for four year olds meet three times weekly, MWF. The classes for three-year-olds meet twice weekly on T/TH. Class size is limited to 16 students for the four-year-old classes and 14 students for the three-year-old classes. Morning sessions are 9-11:30 am and afternoon sessions are 12:15-2:45 pm.
